Your Dreams Are Bigger Than Your Circumstances

Have you ever looked up and realized that your days have started blending into one another?

Wake up. Work. Responsibilities. Family. Errands. Bills. Repeat.

There is nothing wrong with routine. In many ways, routine keeps our lives moving. But sometimes, without even realizing it, the things we have to do begin taking up so much space that there is very little room left for the things we still dream of doing.

And somewhere along the way, we begin to feel a little stifled.

Maybe you know there is more inside of you than your current life is expressing.

More you want to experience.

More you want to create.

More places you want to go.

More of yourself you still want to become.

I understand that feeling.

There are dreams I am still working toward too. There are things quietly taking shape in the background of my own life that I will share when the time is right. And sometimes I have to remind myself that what I see around me today is not necessarily the full picture of what my life can become.

Our present circumstances can be very convincing.

They can make us believe that because life looks a certain way today, it must continue looking that way tomorrow.

But that simply is not true.

Your dreams can be bigger than your circumstances.

The life you are living today may be filled with responsibilities, limitations, financial realities, work schedules, family obligations, or things that simply cannot be changed overnight.

But none of those things erase your potential.

A dream does not become foolish simply because it cannot happen immediately.

Sometimes dreams are pursued in tiny steps.

An hour carved out of a busy week.

A class taken.

A page written.

A painting started.

A conversation begun.

A little money saved.

A decision quietly made that says, I am not finished yet.

Because life really is too short to spend all of it waiting for the perfect circumstances to begin living more fully.

We may not be able to change everything today.

But perhaps we can refuse to let routine convince us that this is all there is.

There is still room to grow.

Still room to explore.

Still room to create something new.

Still room to surprise yourself.

And still time to become more of the person you know you were meant to be.

So this week, ask yourself:

What dream have I quietly placed on the shelf because my current circumstances made it seem impossible?

Then ask one more question:

What is one small thing I can do this week to move toward it?

You do not have to see the entire road.

You simply have to be willing to take the next step.

Life is too short to continually postpone the things that make you feel most alive.

You are worthy of the dreams that keep calling you forward.

You are enough. You do enough. You have enough.

And there may still be far more ahead of you than you can see from where you are standing today.

This Week’s Reflection

What part of your life has begun to feel too small for the person you are becoming?

And what would change if, instead of asking “Is this realistic?” you asked:

“What is possible if I begin?”

My artistic journey began with formal studies at the esteemed Willoughby School of Fine Art in Cleveland, Ohio, during my formative years. Transitioning to Cincinnati in the mid-70s, I continued my artistic education at the Cincinnati Art Academy, all while navigating the excitement of high school. However, it was a pivotal move to Southern California during my senior year that expanded my artistic horizons.

In California, I pursued further education in art at Citrus College before transferring to San Diego State University to specialize in Fine Art with a focus on Graphic Design. The culmination of my academic pursuits led me to Platt College in San Diego, where I honed my skills in Graphic Design, laying the foundation for my professional endeavors.

Embarking on my career, I delved into the dynamic realm of graphic design, first with a prominent publishing company and later as a freelance designer. However, my path took an unexpected turn when I was introduced to the world of Merchandising, leading me to contribute my talents to renowned companies such as Pier One, Linens and Things, and Office Max.

Despite the demands of my professional life, my love for painting endured, even if it had to momentarily take a back seat. Now, as I re-enter the art world, I find myself rediscovering the joy and fulfillment that comes with creating art. Drawing inspiration from my experiences and the guidance of local artists, I have embarked on a new chapter, showcasing my evolving style and rekindling my artistic spirit.

My journey has undoubtedly shaped my artistic voice, evolving with each phase of life's twists and turns. While my style may have transformed over the years, it remains a testament to my growth as an artist and as an individual.

I am thrilled to share my work with you and your esteemed gallery, hopeful that it resonates with viewers as much as it does with me.
