Believe in the Vision

Sometimes the person we most need to convince is ourselves.

We can spend so much time hoping other people will understand our dream, support our idea, or believe in the direction we are heading that we forget something important: before anyone else can truly believe in the vision, we have to believe in it ourselves.

I have been thinking about that a lot lately.

Over the past few weeks, I have written about knowing our worth, loving the dream enough to make a plan, trusting the process, and having faith before the results appear. I am beginning to realize that all of those things are connected. They are really about learning to stand behind the life we say we want.

For me, one of those dreams is my Journey to Jordan.

There are practical pieces to work through. There are plans to make, funds to build, classes to teach, artwork to create, and a business that I am continuing to grow. But underneath all of that is something much simpler: I believe in what this journey can become.

I believe in experiencing a new place through an artist’s eyes. I believe in the sketches, paintings, stories, and ideas that may come from it. I believe there are moments waiting for me there that I cannot possibly plan for yet.

And maybe that is what keeps a dream moving forward.

Not certainty.

Belief.

We do not always need everyone around us to understand the vision immediately. Sometimes people need to see our own confidence before they can imagine the possibility themselves. When we stop apologizing for the dream, stop asking whether we are allowed to want it, and begin moving toward it with intention, something changes.

The vision becomes real to us.

And once that happens, we begin making choices that support it.

So this week, if there is something you have been quietly hoping someone else will believe in for you, perhaps the question is not, How do I convince them?

Perhaps the better question is:

Do I believe in it enough to keep going?

Because sometimes the first person you need on your side is you.

This Week’s Reflection

What dream, idea, or direction are you waiting for someone else to validate?

What would happen if you chose to believe in it first?

You are worthy of believing in your own becoming.

You are enough. You do enough. You have enough.

Keep following the light, one step — and perhaps one sketch — at a time.

My artistic journey began with formal studies at the esteemed Willoughby School of Fine Art in Cleveland, Ohio, during my formative years. Transitioning to Cincinnati in the mid-70s, I continued my artistic education at the Cincinnati Art Academy, all while navigating the excitement of high school. However, it was a pivotal move to Southern California during my senior year that expanded my artistic horizons.

In California, I pursued further education in art at Citrus College before transferring to San Diego State University to specialize in Fine Art with a focus on Graphic Design. The culmination of my academic pursuits led me to Platt College in San Diego, where I honed my skills in Graphic Design, laying the foundation for my professional endeavors.

Embarking on my career, I delved into the dynamic realm of graphic design, first with a prominent publishing company and later as a freelance designer. However, my path took an unexpected turn when I was introduced to the world of Merchandising, leading me to contribute my talents to renowned companies such as Pier One, Linens and Things, and Office Max.

Despite the demands of my professional life, my love for painting endured, even if it had to momentarily take a back seat. Now, as I re-enter the art world, I find myself rediscovering the joy and fulfillment that comes with creating art. Drawing inspiration from my experiences and the guidance of local artists, I have embarked on a new chapter, showcasing my evolving style and rekindling my artistic spirit.

My journey has undoubtedly shaped my artistic voice, evolving with each phase of life's twists and turns. While my style may have transformed over the years, it remains a testament to my growth as an artist and as an individual.

I am thrilled to share my work with you and your esteemed gallery, hopeful that it resonates with viewers as much as it does with me.
