A Gentle Reminder: You Need Support Too

We Were Never Meant to Do This Alone

There are times when we become so accustomed to being the strong one, the dependable one, or the person who continually shows up for everyone else that we forget something important:

We need support too.

No matter how capable or independent we may be, none of us were meant to move through life entirely on our own.

Sometimes support is a kind word, a message, a shared post, a recommendation, a purchase, or simply someone saying, “I see how hard you are trying.”

For an artist, a small business owner, or anyone building something from the heart, those gestures mean more than people often realize. They are reminders that the work matters, the dream is visible, and the person behind it is not standing alone.

I pour my heart into what I create. Whether it is a painting, a class, a story, or a few words shared on a Monday morning, there is always a piece of me within it.

That is why your support means so much to me.

Every encouraging message, class registration, shared post, and piece of artwork welcomed into someone’s home reminds me that what I am creating has reached someone.

Perhaps that is what support truly is: one person quietly saying to another, “Keep going. What you are doing matters.”

This week, listen to your intuition when it tells you someone may need encouragement. Reach out. Share their work. Speak their name when an opportunity arises. Remind them that they are seen.

And just as importantly, allow yourself to receive support when it comes.

Many of us become so used to giving that receiving feels uncomfortable. We hold tightly to our responsibilities and convince ourselves that we should be able to handle everything alone.

But a closed hand cannot receive.

Perhaps what we are being asked to release is the belief that needing help makes us weak, or that our value is measured by how much we can carry without anyone noticing.

Support is not weakness. It is connection.

We were meant to remind one another who we are when life makes us forget. We were meant to celebrate each other, stand beside one another during uncertain seasons, and offer encouragement freely.

So this week, find one person you can support.

And when someone offers that same support to you, receive it.

Let it remind you that you are seen, your presence matters, and the heart you pour into the world is not unnoticed.

You are enough. You do enough. You have enough.

And you are still allowed to need the love, encouragement, and support of others along the way.

My artistic journey began with formal studies at the esteemed Willoughby School of Fine Art in Cleveland, Ohio, during my formative years. Transitioning to Cincinnati in the mid-70s, I continued my artistic education at the Cincinnati Art Academy, all while navigating the excitement of high school. However, it was a pivotal move to Southern California during my senior year that expanded my artistic horizons.

In California, I pursued further education in art at Citrus College before transferring to San Diego State University to specialize in Fine Art with a focus on Graphic Design. The culmination of my academic pursuits led me to Platt College in San Diego, where I honed my skills in Graphic Design, laying the foundation for my professional endeavors.

Embarking on my career, I delved into the dynamic realm of graphic design, first with a prominent publishing company and later as a freelance designer. However, my path took an unexpected turn when I was introduced to the world of Merchandising, leading me to contribute my talents to renowned companies such as Pier One, Linens and Things, and Office Max.

Despite the demands of my professional life, my love for painting endured, even if it had to momentarily take a back seat. Now, as I re-enter the art world, I find myself rediscovering the joy and fulfillment that comes with creating art. Drawing inspiration from my experiences and the guidance of local artists, I have embarked on a new chapter, showcasing my evolving style and rekindling my artistic spirit.

My journey has undoubtedly shaped my artistic voice, evolving with each phase of life's twists and turns. While my style may have transformed over the years, it remains a testament to my growth as an artist and as an individual.

I am thrilled to share my work with you and your esteemed gallery, hopeful that it resonates with viewers as much as it does with me.
